The 2010 NFL season is drawing to a close and what a spectacular season it has been. Super Bowl XLV will take place at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on February 6th and will feature the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers versus the NFC champion Green Bay Packers.
The Green Bay Packers enter the Super Bowl as the 6th seed in the NFC playoffs, upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, and longtime rival the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship game. Aaron Rodgers leads a team that had a league-high 15 players on injured reserve including starting running back Ryan Grant, who they lost in week one. The Packers also lost their star tight end Jermichael Finley the injury. But that didn’t stop Aaron Rodgers from throwing almost 4,000 yards and 28 touchdowns this season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers arrive in Arlington at the Super Bowl for the third time in six seasons, winning both against the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals. The Steelers are led defensively by star linebackers LaMarr Woodley, Lawrence Timmons, and James Harrison and also All-Pro Safety Troy Polamalu. Offensively they have quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who opened the season on suspension from a sexual assault allegation, and wide receiver Mike Wallace who exploded this season.
Las Vegas has the Green Bay Packers as two to three point favorites and this is the first time the Steelers have been underdogs in the Super Bowl. Cowboys Stadium is expected to hold over 93,000 fans. Thousands of additional fans outside will be watching the game on giant televisions, which will be included in the official attendance count, the first in Super Bowl history.
Tyree Brown, a student at the High School of Commerce said, “The Steelers are going to win. There is like an 80 percent chance they will win.” While Alassia Snow, a student at Springfield Central High School said the Packers are going to win, but her hate for the Steelers as a Patriots fan has something to do with her prediction.
I personally think it will be a low scoring game at halftime, and then after the Black Eyed Peas, it will erupt into an offensive shootout. The Packers will prevail in the first ever overtime Super Bowl 34-28 and Aaron Rodgers will win his first Super Bowl of many throughout his legendary career.
