“I kissed a girl and I liked it / The taste of her cherry chap stick.” These lyrics are by pop/rock artist Katy Perry. Do her experiences with females at parties make her bisexual? For that matter, does that make every female that kisses a girl bisexual?

Since this song has come out, people think that being homosexual is a “cool” thing. Some of those same people think that homosexuality is one of the best things that could ever happen. But what is homosexuality? Is it a fad?

There are some homosexuals who have to deal with the struggle of liking the same sex. Although the numbers remain somewhat unclear, the renown Kinsey report of 1948 suggests that 10% of America’s population is homosexual. Regardless of what the specific numbers are, there are clearly millions of Americans who are not experimenting when they’re kissing someone of the same sex. While some people are out in the open, others keep to themselves. Why?

“They are scared,” an anonymous person stated when asked this question. “They are scared of not being accepted by friend and family. And that’s only because most people don’t believe in liking the same sex. For some it’s a religious thing and for others, it’s just plain disgusting.”

Another anonymous person had this to say, “Now people say it’s cool to be gay. And there are girls who will go from being straight, to bisexual, and then to a lesbian and then back to bisexual and then all the way down to straight. Honestly, I feel like I’m being mocked because most people are confused. And then you can see girls that are bisexual, parading around with gay flags. It’s cool to represent, but why go completely out like that?”

Not every person does it, but the majority of homosexuals do. It’s good to be out and proud, but are the belts and shoes going overboard?

“Not really, if it was one or the other. It’s not really going over the top. But dressing from head-to-toe with the whole gay flag is representing too much. There’s people that can’t even do that.”

Some people treat homosexuality as a fad because their friends are doing it, they could just be making excuses to try to be gay to get accepted.

Others, who have been homosexual for many years, feel like they are living a life of agony and constant stress.

So, is homosexuality a fad or lifestyle?
